Research

Many faculty members at TUSPM are performing cutting-edge research in areas including biomechanics, diabetes and Y Balance performance tests that lead to advances in the practice of podiatric medicine. While TUSPM does not employ research or teaching assistants, students may volunteer to work on faculty research projects as a way to expand their training and education.

Facilities

TUSPM’s association with Temple Health gives students direct access to a range of locations in which they can gain practical experience as they progress through the DPM program. Facilities include an anatomy lab, computer lab, fitness center, technology-enabled classrooms and feature on-site radiology.

Charles E. Krausz Library

Named in honor of Charles Krausz, a former dean of the Temple University School of Chiropody, whose exemplary work has contributed to the field of podiatry, the Charles E. Krausz Library is a primary resource for TUSPM students. It contains textbooks on reserve, desktop and laptop computers, online databases, periodicals and journals, study rooms, and scanning and printing services. Expert staff members are also available to help students with research.

Foot and Ankle Institute

Offering advanced diagnostic, injury prevention and treatment of the foot and ankle, the institute is home to a team of fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeons who are committed to restoring lower extremity function with minimal pain. Starting in their third year, TUSPM students will complete several months of clinical training working with institute specialists.

Gait Study Center

A state-of-the-art research laboratory dedicated to studying lower extremity biomechanics. Clinicians at the Gait Study Center explore how foot type biomechanics relate to human movement and disability, with special attention to alignment, dynamic function, and footwear technologies.

Surgical Skills Lab

TUSPM’s Surgical Skills Lab is a designated campus workspace that facilitates the development and advancement of podiatric surgical skills including AO fixation; injection; nail procedure; percutaneous wire fixation; sagittal saw; suturing; and other principles, skills and techniques. The lab can accommodate up to 30 students across all levels of learning at any time and features supplementary audio-visual equipment to magnify individual techniques on large screens. Students are welcome to participate in the industry-sponsored cadaveric and other surgically based workshops and courses that are hosted at the lab.
