The Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) is the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ accrediting agency for education programs preparing students for careers as registered dietitians (RD). ACEND exists to serve the public by establishing and enforcing Eligibility Requirements and Accreditation Standards that ensure the quality and continued improvement of nutrition/dietetics education programs. Programs meeting those standards are accredited by ACEND. ACEND is recognized by the United States Department of Education. This affirms that ACEND meets national standards and is a reliable authority on the quality of nutrition/dietetics education programs.

Temple University College of Public Health’s MPH in Nutrition Future Graduate Model is currently accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics.

Graduates are eligible to take the exam offered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration to become a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN). You may need to obtain licensure in your state of practice, if applicable, which is the case in many states in our region (PA, NJ, DE, NY, MD, CT, WV and OH, as well as Washington, DC) and across the country. Refer to the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing website to learn more about licensure in PA, or learn more about licensure statutes by state. 

Students who complete the MPH in Nutrition at Temple University may also be eligible to sit for the Certified in Public Health (CPH) exam offered by the National Board of Public Health Examiners and the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES®) exam offered by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. Mission

The mission of the Temple University MPH in Nutrition program is to train graduate students in public health practice, with a particular focus on underserved, urban populations, with fundamentals of nutrition and dietetics and to prepare graduates for practice as Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs).

Program Goals and Objectives

The goal of the Nutrition MPH program is to prepare graduates to practice evidence-based nutrition.

• Objective #1: At least 80% of program graduates complete program/degree requirements within two years and eight months (150% of the program length).
• Objective #2: Eighty percent of program graduates take the CDR credentialing exam for dietitian nutritionists within 12 months of program completion.
• Objective #3: The program’s one-year pass rate (graduates who pass the registration exam within one year of first attempt) on the CDR credentialing exam for dietitian nutritionists is at least 80%.
• Objective #4: At least 80% of employers will report that graduates were prepared for their first year as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist.
