Research Opportunities

Graduate students at the Lew Klein College of Media and Communication have opportunities to work with top researchers in an interdisciplinary and collaborative academic setting. Given the breadth of graduate programs Klein offers, you’ll be able to carry out research in compelling new areas of inquiry, or develop creative projects on media platforms of all kinds.

Department Research

Faculty for the Doctor of Philosophy in Media and Communication program work in a variety of research areas, including

  • communication effects and psychological processes;

  • emerging media and technology;

  • global media, social change and activism;

  • journalism studies;

  • media, identity and representation;

  • political communication;

  • popular communication; and

  • the media industry, laws and policies.

Graduate Research Forum

Students in the Media and Communication PhD program have the opportunity to present their research at the annual Graduate Research Forum. This competitive conference, organized by a team of students and faculty, allows student to share their work and receive constructive feedback in a supportive environment.

Temple’s urban setting in the nation’s fourth largest media market makes Klein an ideal center for cutting-edge research and creative work. Academic and artistic exchanges occur across disciplines here, and our talented professors and inquisitive students explore the role of communication in public life.

You’ll be able to work alone, with other students, and with faculty on numerous scholarly and creative projects, conducting research, presenting at conferences and submitting to journals. Travel and research funding is available to help support your work.
