Bachelor of Science in Education in Early Childhood Education 

Learn how to help children in pre-kindergarten through fourth grade develop the academic skills and habits that support a lifetime of learning. Earn the Bachelor of Science in Education in Early Childhood Education (PreK through grade 4) and become an elementary school teacher.

Completing this degree program will equip you to

  • address and prevent learning difficulties for children with special needs;
  • assess student learning in a variety of ways;
  • deliver effective literacy, mathematics, science and social studies instruction;
  • learn best practices for both native and non-native English speakers;
  • master curriculum design for all students; and
  • understand child development in depth.

You start fieldwork as early as your second year. Field experiences require you to observe effective, engaging classroom management firsthand. You will practice instructing individuals, small groups and the entire classroom. Learn more about fieldwork

Finish your program by completing a year-long student teaching experience under the guidance of a cooperating teacher and the supervision of Temple faculty.

Concentrations

You can focus on Early Childhood Education or you can opt for the following concentration.

  • Special Education

    Earn dual certification in elementary education and special education (Pre-K through grade 8) by learning to use evidence-based practice to teach students with diverse abilities. Work directly with children before and during student teaching, and learn to create the best environments for different learning styles.

Teacher Certification

This program prepares you to successfully complete state certification exams, allowing you to apply for a Pennsylvania Instructional I Teaching Certificate. Learn more about certification.

Tuition & Fees

In keeping with Temple’s commitment to access and affordability, the Bachelor of Science in Education offers a competitive level of tuition with multiple opportunities for financial support.

Tuition rates are set annually by the university and are affected by multiple factors, including program degree level (undergraduate or graduate), course load (full- or part-time), in-state or out-of-state residency, and more. You can view the full Cost of Attendance breakdown on the Student Financial Services website.

These tuition costs apply to the 2023–2024 academic year.

Pennsylvania resident: $17,976.00 per year
Out-of-state: $32,376.00 per year
