Professional Science Masters in Bioinnovation

Learn the business and science behind new projects in biomedicine and biotechnology with the Professional Science Master’s (PSM) in Bioinnovation​ from Temple’s College of Science and Technology CST. This 30-credit graduate degree program focuses on the identification, commercialization and dissemination of novel biological concepts, models and technologies to help students develop a portfolio of knowledge and experience that allows them to pursue careers in such fast-growing fields as bioinformatics, global health, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, and technology transfer and trade.

Led by faculty scholars in CST and the Fox School of Business and Management, the Bioinnovation PSM offers

  • an interdisciplinary curriculum designed and taught by Temple faculty and industry experts,
  • hands-on training in professional and management skills, and
  • applied focus on responsibility and ethics in research and policy.

With opportunities to do research in one of Temple’s many state-of-the-art facilities or an internship at a local biotechnology/pharmaceutical company, the Bioinnovation PSM helps position you for career advancement by preparing you to work with researchers and clinicians, manage the marketing and financing of new products, and understand regulations that affect innovation.

Program Format & Curriculum

Classes for the Bioinnovation PSM are held in the evening on Temple’s Main Campus to accommodate working professionals. The advanced career-focused curriculum, designed for recent graduates and professionals who have a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in biology, chemistry, business or communication, or a juris doctor in law (or foreign equivalent) requires 30 credit-hours of coursework and can be completed in two years. Classes are a blend of research and seminar courses including

  • Biomarkers and Biotargets: Research and Commercialization;
  • Dissemination of Biodiscoveries and Virtual Reality in Medicine;
  • Epigenetics, Genetics: Applications in Drug Design and Drug Response; and
  • Innovative Biomodels and Concepts.

Students must also successfully complete a final capstone project with a local biotechnology, healthcare or pharmaceutical company or conduct research at Temple under the guidance of a principal investigator as a graduation requirement.

+1 Accelerated Degree Programs

Temple undergraduates can pursue dual degrees with an accelerated +1 dual bachelor’s + master’s degree option. The Bioinnovation PSM can be completed through the +1 accelerated pathway if the required qualifications are met by junior year.

Tuition & Fees

In keeping with Temple’s commitment to access and affordability, this Professional Science Master's offers a competitive level of tuition with multiple opportunities for financial support.

Tuition rates are set annually by the university and are affected by multiple factors, including program degree level (undergraduate or graduate), course load (full- or part-time), in-state or out-of-state residency, and more. These tuition costs apply to the 2023–2024 academic year.

Pennsylvania resident: $1,301.00 per credit
Out-of-state: $1,696.00 per credit
